Friday October 18, students wore pink, the symbol of support for breast cancer awareness, especially during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The color pink has become closely associated with efforts to raise awareness, promote early detection, and support those affected by breast cancer. Curley’s students, faculty and staff also collected money to support a local cancer charity.
FATHER-SON BOWLING NIGHT On October 12th, father-son bowling teams hit the lanes for an evening of friendly competition. This event was sponsored by the Curley Parents’ Guild and was an opportunity for fathers and sons to spend time together. Don’t worry, Moms, You will have the opportunity for some quality time with your sons at the upcoming Mother-Son Dinner Dance in March!
Looking for an unforgettable scary night out, visit Creepy Woods Haunted Forest in White Marsh on October 18th. $5 of every ticket purchased will be donated to Curley.
CURLEY’S FALL RAFFLE The first of the school year’s two student raffles has kicked off. Every family benefits from these raffles as all money raised goes directly to support the school’s operating budget. The Grand Prize is Free Tuition for the 2025-26 School Year at Curley OR $10,000 cash. You can purchase tickets from any Curley student and that will go towards his sales. You can also purchase raffle tickets online. We will mail you the stubs, but we cannot credit online purchases to any student. Curley AP Environmental Science students visited to the Chesapeake Bay Today, the students had a fantastic hands-on learning experience focused on environmental conservation and marine ecology. During the trip, students learned about platinum-rated, environmentally friendly building design and its importance in sustainable development. They also delved into the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay, examining key indicators of aquatic health. They were able to hop on canoes and head into deeper areas of the creek, where they conducted various water quality tests, including measuring pH, salinity, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, phosphorus, and nitrate levels. Today, following the Liturgy, Curley recognized seniors Nathaniel Kaelber and David Fritz for having been named Commended Students in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. They placed among the top 50,000 students nationally who took the 2023 PSAT/NMSQT national test, and demonstrate outstanding potential for academic success. Congratulations!
On Tuesday, October 1st, FYM students created blankets for Project Linus — an organization that gives back to sick children in hospitals. This was a service project after school that was a fun time for students to be social while cutting and tying.
Members of the Spanish NHS traveled to Silver Spring to watch a film at the Latin American Film Festival at the AFI Silver Theatre. The students also enjoyed a meal at a Mexican Restaurant to celebrate National Taco Day. This is the just one of many initiatives that the students have planned for this year.
Members of the St. Bonaventure Scholars program went on a Day of Discovery to the Maryland Renaissance Festival. Students were able to learn more about medieval culture and literature along with seeing some entertaining shows and eating some delicious food.
This past weekend, senior drumline captain, Mike Streckfus, joined approximately 500 high school musicians who traveled to Blacksburg, VA to perform with Virginia Tech’s Marching Virginians. The bands paid tribute to members of the armed forces on Military Appreciation Day in front of a crowd of 66,000 as they became Hokies for the day.
Congratulations to the Friars for their 3-1 victory over Calvert Hall to win The Bernie Reif Alumni Cup. David Brunetti opened the scoring for the visitors with a well placed free kick from 20 yards out. Goals by Carter Clark and Jack Comey gave Curley the 3-0 lead at the half. Landon Beckman and Casey Price assisted. The squad improves to 8-1 on the season and 5-1 in MIAA A Conference play.
Today, the College Counseling Office hosted a mini college fair during lunch periods. Students were able to talk to reps from 16 different colleges and universities from all over the east coast. We will continue to have individual college visits through the fall! We look forward to helping students navigate this process.
Attention Curley Soccer Fans: Sunday September 22 is the 23rd Annual Bernie Reif Alumni Cup soccer match between Curley and Calvert Hall. This trophy, named after Curley’s first soccer coach, Bernie Reif, goes to the winner who keeps it for a year. Come see the Curley Friars in action. SPANISH NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTIONS On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Curley recognized individual students for their academic achievements and induction in the Spanish National Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria de Espanol.) Alex Alarcón, Luis Funez, Tomi Majekodunmi, Nicholas Pierorazio, Joseph Crus, Isaac Dukes, Jack LaChapelle, Casey Price, Owen Shaprow, Diego Vega Diaz, Tyler Brown, Nicholas Lentz, Dalton Schekells, Ryan Fuller and, Nathan Woods.
Ms. Dalina, Mr. Ayd, Ms. Smith, and Mrs. Schucker led a group of twenty St. Bonaventure Scholars on a visit to several small parks in the Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. area. They enjoyed hiking the Swamp Trail on Theodore Roosevelt Island, eating lunch, watching airplanes fly over at Gravelly Point Park (near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport), and hiking to the beautiful overlook points at Great Falls National Park. Curley St. Bonaventure Scholars have the opportunity to experience learning outside of the classroom.
FLAHERTY FAMILY FOUNDATION SCHOLARS Recently the recipients of the Flaherty Family Foundation Scholarship gathered at Curley. The Flaherty Family Foundation supports the education of Curley students and provides opportunities for enrichment throughout the year. We are thankful to this Foundation for the support of our young men and wish our students much success.
Congratulations to the 10th class to be inducted into the Curley Athletics Hall Of Fame at Homecoming 2024 on Saturday, October 5th. More details to come on each.

The first school Mass of the year was celebrated on September 3rd. At the end of the liturgy the 5 Touchstone Scholars (Tyler Brown, Liam Girard, Dalton Scheckells, Nguyen Burrell & Michael Streckfus) were introduced and awarded their scholarship. Each Scholar must be a member of the National Honor Society, have a varsity letter, and show leadership in the school.
